Estimate adult body frame size from height and wrist circumference. Select your reference sex and unit system to compare your height-to-wrist ratio with commonly used small, medium, and large frame ranges.
Your measurements
Your estimate
Female reference: small above 11.0, medium 10.1–11.0, large below 10.1.
This is a traditional screening estimate. It does not measure bone density, body fat, muscle mass, or health.
What is body frame size?
Body frame size is a broad description of skeletal build, often grouped as small, medium, or large. A commonly used method divides height by wrist circumference because wrist size contains relatively little soft tissue compared with many other body measurements.
How the calculation works
Height and wrist circumference are converted to the same unit, then height is divided by wrist circumference. The resulting ratio is compared with sex-specific reference thresholds. Because both measurements use the same unit, the ratio is identical in centimetres or inches.
Where should I measure my wrist?
Wrap a flexible tape around the narrowest part of the wrist, just below the wrist bone. Keep the tape level and snug without compressing the skin.
Does frame size determine ideal weight?
No. Frame size may add context, but health and weight goals also depend on body composition, medical history, activity, age, and many other factors.
Can teenagers use this calculator?
The reference ranges are intended for adults. Children and teenagers are still growing and should use age-appropriate professional assessment.
