How the 2026 Navy BCA works
The current Navy assessment begins with waist circumference divided by height. The recorded ratio is evaluated to four decimal places: 0.5499 or lower is within Step 1 standards, while 0.5500 or higher continues to Step 2.
What happens in Step 2?
Step 2 uses the Navy’s sex-specific body-composition tables based on recorded height, waist, and weight. The maximum Step 2 value is 26% for males and 36% for females. An official table lookup—not the retired neck-and-hip tape equation—determines the Navy result.
Why does this calculator stop before an unofficial Step 2 percentage?
The current Guide 4 uses detailed tables and official recording rules. This calculator avoids substituting an approximate or retired formula for an official table result. If Step 2 is indicated, use the current Guide 4, official Navy PFA tools, or your command fitness leader.
Where is the waist measured?
Follow the current Navy Guide 4 measurement procedure. Measurement location, tape position, repeated readings, and recording increments can materially affect the result.
Is 0.5500 within standards?
No. Step 1 requires a recorded ratio below 0.5500. A displayed value of exactly 0.5500 proceeds to Step 2.
