Clothing Size Converter

Clothing Size Converter

Convert body measurements into practical women’s and men’s clothing sizes across US, UK, EU and international alpha systems.

Convert your clothing size

Measure around the fullest part of the bust.

This Clothing Size Converter estimates a starting size from your actual body measurement. Use a flexible tape, keep it level and measure over light clothing. Do not pull the tape tightly. Clothing brands use different pattern blocks and ease allowances, so compare the result with the retailer’s own chart before ordering.

How to take clothing measurements

Women’s tops and dresses: measure around the fullest part of the bust. Women’s bottoms: measure the natural waist, usually the narrowest point above the hips. Men’s tops and jackets: measure the fullest chest while keeping the tape under the arms. Men’s trousers: measure the waist where the trousers will sit.

Stand naturally, breathe normally and measure twice. If the values differ, repeat the measurement. When a measurement falls exactly between two bands, the converter selects the larger size for comfort.

How the clothing conversion works

The converter changes inches to centimeters when required, applies the selected fit allowance and compares the adjusted value with practical adult sizing bands. Each band returns an international alpha size plus common US, UK and EU equivalents for that garment group.

Adjusted measurement = body measurement + fit allowance

A closer fit subtracts 2 centimeters and a relaxed fit adds 2 centimeters before matching the band. This is a planning estimate, not a universal manufacturing standard. Stretch, fabric, cut, intended ease, height and body proportions can change the best choice.

Clothing Size Converter example

A woman with a 92-centimeter bust selecting standard fit falls within the Medium band. The estimated equivalents are US 8–10, UK 12–14 and EU 40–42. If the garment is structured or non-stretch, checking shoulder, waist and hip measurements on the seller chart is especially important.

Tips for choosing the right size

Use the Clothing Size Converter as a practical starting point, then compare every result with the seller chart. The Clothing Size Converter is most helpful when a store lists unfamiliar regional sizes.

  • Use current body measurements instead of the size printed on an older garment.
  • Check whether the retailer chart lists body measurements or finished garment measurements.
  • For stretch fabric, consider the intended compression and recovery.
  • For coats and jackets, allow room for layers worn underneath.
  • If bust, waist and hip suggest different sizes, prioritize the measurement most important to the garment and consider alterations.

Frequently asked questions

Are clothing sizes the same for every brand?

No. Brand blocks, target customers, country conventions and garment ease differ. Always use the brand chart when available.

Should I size up when between sizes?

Usually choose the larger size for structured garments. Stretch garments may fit differently, so review fabric and fit notes.

Are US and UK women’s sizes identical?

No. UK women’s numeric sizes are commonly about four numbers above the comparable US size, but brands vary.

Does the converter work for children?

No. This tool uses general adult bands. Children’s sizing depends strongly on age, height and brand-specific growth charts.

Why does fit preference change the result?

The allowance simulates a closer or roomier choice. It does not change your body measurement or replace garment-specific ease.
