How the Business Quote Calculator works
The Business Quote Calculator totals up to five products or services using quantity multiplied by unit price for each line. It then applies a percentage discount to the line-item subtotal, adds any additional charge, and estimates tax using the rate and taxable base you select. The displayed quote total is the amount produced by these assumptions; it is not an invoice or a guarantee that a customer will accept the offer. The Business Quote Calculator keeps each adjustment visible so you can review the estimate before sharing it.
Line-item subtotal = sum of all line amounts.
Discount = line-item subtotal × discount rate ÷ 100.
Adjusted subtotal = line-item subtotal − discount.
Taxable amount = adjusted subtotal, plus additional charges only when selected.
Estimated tax = taxable amount × entered tax rate ÷ 100.
Quote total = adjusted subtotal + additional charges + estimated tax.
Worked quote example
The default example includes 10 consulting hours at $75 each and two material units at $125 each. The line-item subtotal is $1,000. A 5% discount reduces the subtotal by $50, leaving $950. With $50 in additional charges and an 8.25% rate applied to discounted items only, estimated tax is $78.38 and the quote total is $1,078.38.
If the same tax rate also applies to the $50 charge, select the second tax-base option. The taxable amount becomes $1,000, estimated tax becomes $82.50, and the quote total becomes $1,082.50. This comparison shows how your taxable-base assumption affects the estimate; local rules determine which assumption is correct.
Enter quote line items in the Business Quote Calculator
Enter a short description, quantity, and unit price for each item. Blank rows are ignored, so the quote can contain one item or several. A row with any value entered must include all three fields. Quantities must be greater than zero, while a zero unit price can represent a complimentary line. Keep units clear in the description, such as hours, seats, boxes, or one-time setup.
Use one currency and one consistent unit basis throughout the quote. For time-based services, quantity might be hours and unit price an hourly rate. For a fixed project, quantity may be one and unit price the project fee. The Business Quote Calculator does not convert measurements, currencies, or pricing units.
Discounts, fees, and tax basis in a Business Quote Calculator
The percentage discount applies to the sum of line items. Additional charges are added after that discount and are not discounted by this calculator. Enter any delivery, setup, or similar amount as one combined charge; the form does not split multiple fees or apply distinct tax treatment to different fee types.
Select whether the estimated tax applies to discounted items alone or to discounted items plus additional charges. This is a calculation choice, not a legal determination. Taxability can vary by location, product or service, customer, shipping method, exemptions, and other transaction details. Enter a rate and taxable base confirmed for the specific quote. A zero rate simply produces zero tax in the arithmetic.
Business Quote Calculator estimate versus invoice
A quote is a proposed price for work or goods before the sale is completed. It can help a customer review item descriptions, quantities, discounts, charges, and an estimated total. An invoice is a request for payment after a transaction or under agreed billing terms. The Business Quote Calculator makes an estimate summary for review; it does not create a legally compliant quotation or invoice document, store customer information, assign a quote number, set an expiration date, or track acceptance.
Before sending a quote, add your business identity, customer details, scope, schedule, payment terms, exclusions, and any required tax disclosures using your normal business process. Confirm that each line item reflects the agreed work and that no charge or discount is counted twice.

Limitations of this Business Quote Calculator
This Business Quote Calculator is a general planning aid. It does not recommend a selling price, calculate product cost or profit margin, validate tax treatment, determine current rates, create a contract, or replace an accounting or invoicing system. It supports up to five quote lines, one percentage discount, one combined additional charge, one tax rate, and one selected taxable-base rule.
Amounts are calculated at full precision and shown to two decimal places. Line-level rounding, local tax rounding, discounts applied after tax, deposits, staged payments, multiple tax rates, exemptions, surcharges, and special fee rules are not modeled. Review the calculation with your records and a qualified adviser when needed.
Business Quote Calculator FAQs
How do I calculate a quote with a discount and tax?
Add the line items, apply the discount to the item subtotal, add charges, calculate tax on the selected taxable amount, and add tax to get the estimated quote total.
Can I enter more than one product or service?
Yes. The form supports up to five line items. Leave unused rows blank; any partially completed row must include a description, quantity, and unit price.
Are additional charges included in the tax calculation?
Choose whether the estimated tax applies to discounted items only or to discounted items plus additional charges. Confirm the correct treatment for your transaction.
Does the calculator choose the tax rate for my location?
No. Enter a rate you have independently confirmed. The tool does not look up tax rates or determine whether a sale is taxable.
Can I send this result as an official quote?
The result is an estimate summary, not a formal quotation document. Add customer, business, scope, timing, and terms through your normal quoting process.
Does the currency selector convert exchange rates?
No. It changes result formatting only. All amounts must use the same currency.
