Calculate your cumulative GPA
How the CGPA Calculator works
The CGPA Calculator uses a credit-weighted average. A semester with more credit hours has a larger effect on cumulative GPA than a lighter semester. The tool multiplies every semester GPA by its credits, adds the quality points, and divides by total credits.
CGPA formula
CGPA = Σ(semester GPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ semester credits. Use the same GPA scale and credit system for every row.
Worked example
Suppose a student earns 3.20 over 15 credits, 3.60 over 18 credits, and 3.80 over 12 credits. The semesters contribute 48.0, 64.8, and 45.6 quality points. The total is 158.4 quality points over 45 credits, producing a CGPA of 3.52.
CGPA examples
| Semester record | Total credits | CGPA |
|---|---|---|
| 3.0×15 + 3.5×15 | 30 | 3.25 |
| 3.2×12 + 3.8×18 | 30 | 3.56 |
| 3.6×15 + 3.7×15 + 3.8×15 | 45 | 3.70 |
CGPA versus GPA
GPA often describes performance for one semester or a selected group of courses. CGPA usually means cumulative GPA across all included academic terms. Institutions may use the names differently, so check the wording on your transcript.
A simple average of semester GPAs is correct only when every semester contains the same number of credits. Credit weighting prevents a six-credit term from influencing the cumulative result as much as an eighteen-credit term.
How to use this calculator
Enter a semester name, its GPA, and its attempted or earned credits according to your school’s policy. Add every semester included in the official record and select Calculate CGPA. Empty rows are ignored, while incomplete or invalid rows produce a clear warning.

Important academic policies
Schools may exclude transfer grades, repeat courses, pass/fail work, withdrawals, developmental classes, or forgiven grades. Some calculate separate institutional and overall cumulative GPAs. Use the figures your registrar includes when you need an official result.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a 4.3, 5.0, or 10.0 scale?
Yes. The formula works with any consistent scale, although you should not mix scales in one calculation.
Should I include failed courses?
Include them if your institution includes their credits and grade points in cumulative GPA. Check the repeat and forgiveness policy.
Can I average semester GPAs without credits?
Only when all semesters have identical credit totals. Otherwise, use the credit-weighted method.
Why might my transcript CGPA differ?
Your school may use unrounded values or special rules for repeated, transferred, excluded, or pass/fail courses.
